The Income Tax Department’s Permanent Account Number (PAN) is compulsory for registration of properties worth above Rs.5 lakh as per the recent directive of the State government.
The department planned to enter Aadhar number also in future in the documents, according to the Registration Deputy Inspector-General T. Saroja who oversees the functioning of 30 sub-registrar offices in both Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
She hoped that entry of PAN number would ensure accountability in high worth property registrations. Speaking to The Hindu , she said that the documentation was being done in a flawless manner to avoid deception and future complications. She denied the charges of ‘organised corruption’ in the department while saying that the people can directly approach them without depending on document writers and brokers.
“Property buyers need not pay ‘formalities’ to anyone as the department is always ready to register the documents if anybody comes directly to the office,” Mrs. Saroja added.
According to her, the department slashed the revenue target from Rs.102 crore to Rs.67 crore in 2015-16 in Srikakulam district with the failure in achieving the targets for the last two years.
However, the department is hopeful to generate more revenue in Srikakulam district with the buzzing real estate activity in Bhogapuram, Kottavalasa, S. Kota and other places.
