Over
three billion sq ft area of green building projects has been registered so far
by Indian Green Building Council, which aims to rope in 10 billion sq ft by
2022.
IGBC is a part of the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII), which is involved in promoting the green building movement in India.
"India
has crossed three billion sq ft mark of registered green building footprint.
This is a remarkable milestone which has put the country in the second position
in the world green building footprint. The larger plan and strategy of IGBC is
to have 10 billion sq ft by 2022," IGBC Chairman Prem Jain said here
today. IGBC is a part of the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII), which is involved in promoting the green building movement in India.
"The reason for this significant progress is the fact that stakeholders are realising that green buildings make good business sense. This key proposition is encouraging them to go the green buildings way," he added.
Jain further said over the years India has gained enough experience and has vision, leadership, technical expertise and wherewithal on addressing various aspects of sustainable construction.
"India will set new global standards in design, construction and operation," he added.
