The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has asked plot owners in the city, who have not started construction work on their land despite several years of allotment, to get their building plans sanctioned within two months.
The GDA on Saturday issued notices to plot owners after it detected through a preliminary survey that several pieces of land lying vacant in the city have turned into garbage dumps or dens for antisocial elements. Yadav said that a detailed survey would be conducted across the city to ascertain the exact number of plots that are lying vacant under residential, commercial and institutional categories.
"In certain cases, plots have been lying unattended after allotment for the past 20 to 25 years. The owners might have only made investments in these properties and there is nothing wrong in doing so. However, there should be some time limit for completion of construction on plots if the titles of the land are clear and there are no legal cases pending," GDA vice-chairman Vijay Yadav told TOI.
He added, "If construction had been completed on these plots, house tax and water tax from these plots could have been pumped into cleanliness of the city. Officials have been asked to ensure that all plot owners pass their building plans with the GDA within two months. If construction does not commence soon on the plots for which building plans have already been passed, we will be forced to take drastic measures."
The Authority has also directed owners of all vacant plots to complete cleaning of their plots within a week. According to officials, the Authority may initiate proceedings to cancel allotments of the plots if directions issued are not followed.
