Huda makes use of recycled water must for Gurgaon builders

GURGAON: A day after Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh expressed his concern over the city's depleting groundwater, Huda on Thursday directed all builders to use only recycled sewage water at construction sites. Builders will now have to give an undertaking on affidavit for it.

Consent for approval of building plans will be given on the basis of this undertaking. Builders who not submit this affidavit will have to make arrangement for treatment of sewage water at construction site. The use of groundwater will be completely banned.

Singh met officials of MCG, HSIIDC and HUDA on Wednesday and asked them to submit a report on action taken by them for conservation of rain water. Singh suggested conserving lakes and ponds in Gurgaon villages to recharge groundwater.

Huda administrator Anshaj Singh said in September 4, 2012, Punjab and Haryana high court had ordered builders to use treated sewage water. A CREDAI member said developers will follow this order and added that sewerage treatment plants are a part of most projects these days. After a project is completed, these STPs treat the township's sewage for use in gardens and elsewhere.

Currently, Huda has two STP plants at Dhanwapur and Behrampur, which supply treated water to construction sites. This recycled water is treated again by package units (small STPs) at construction sites, which can then reuse the water at the site itself.

A Huda official said the administrator's office would approve the use sewage water treated by Huda plants at construction sites.

The application will then be forwarded to the junior engineer, who will conduct a site visit. The final approval will be granted by the administrator.

The developer will have to produce the HUDA/HSIIDC certificate details of the treated water actually consumed during the construction of a project, while applying for occupation certificates of the project.
