Centre sanctions 49k houses for Telangana under HFA


Hyderabad: The Union government has sanctioned over 49,600 houses for Telangana under the housing for all (HFA) to be built at a cost of over Rs 3,000 crore. The Centre will bear Rs 744 crore of the total cost of the housing project. It has also agreed to sanction houses for poor in other urban local bodies.

According to official sources, the Centre on Monday okayed the HFA scheme for the state. Of the total 29,254 houses to be built at a cost of Rs 1,769 crore were sanctioned for greater Hyderabad for which the state government would be required to spend Rs 438 crore as its share. Similarly, in other urban local body limits, the Centre sanctioned 20,359 housing units costing Rs 1231 crore. The share of the expenditure of Centre for this would come to Rs 305 crore.


On the request of the state government and Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, minister for urban development M Venkaiah Naidu agreed to sanction 12,387 housing units to be built in 26 urban local bodies under non-HFA scheme for which the Centre would bear Rs 185 crore as its share of expenditure. The government is also considering sanctioning houses in another 31 local bodies in Telangana.



In a statement, Bandaru Dattatreya on Monday said on December 15 he requested Venkaiah Naidu to sanction 45,217 housing units for Telangana.
