Land use changed in two villages for housing scheme in Ghaziabad

GHAZIBAD: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Monday changed the land use in two villages - Basantpur-Saintalli and Kushliya - from agricultural to residential and proposed to hand over the acquired land to two private builders for developing affordable houses under the Samajwadi Awas Yojna.
The decision was taken at GDA's board meeting and the proposal to hand over the land to two private developers - Ms RS Landcraft LLP Consortium and Ms Shreya Developers Pvt Ltd Consortium - will soon sent to the state urban development department for its approval, officials said.
However, the proposal has raised many an eyebrow. "Samajwadi Awas Yojna was launched in 2014, under which the government aims to make 3.5 lakh affordable homes by 2016. Why is GDA not coming forward in developing housing schemes under Samajwadi Awas Yojna when it has means and resources to do so?" Alok Kumar, president of the Federation of Association of Apartment Owners, asked.
The GDA defended the move saying everything was being done legally. "Be it changing land use or taking decision to give away land to private builders for developing residential units, in both the cases, rules are being followed and there is nothing wrong in this," Ravinder Godbole, GDA secretary, said.
