NOIDA/ GREATER NOIDA: The deck has been cleared for Metro to be expanded to Greater Noida West (also called Noida Extension), following last week's Supreme Court order dismissing pleas against land acquisition in the area. Officials said before the order, there was suspense over land use in the area. Buyers and builders were equally afraid of investing here. But now that the land issue is resolved, a detailed project report is expected to be finalized within a month.
The executive director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) said Noida Extension homebuyers have another reason to cheer, as Metro will be extended to the upcoming township as an extension of the Sector 71 line, providing much-needed connectivity. "We're in the process of finalising the detailed project report, which then be sent to the UP cabinet for approval. Other formalities will be completed thereafter," GP Singh said.
Experts agreed that with land woes taken care of, the expansion will be financially feasible. "After the court order, there is positive sentiment in the market, which should make housing in Noida Extension financially feasible. Metro will also not face any land acquisition issue," officials added. "We are expecting the detailed project report in a month, which will then be sent for cabinet approval," he added.
Group housing projects in various areas of Noida, especially Sectors 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 112, 121 and 119, will also benefit from this latest Metro extension. Most of the projects have already been delivered and people have started living in them. The extension will also cater to further 50 other housing projects currently being constructed in these areas.
"We are extending the City Center Metro line to Noida Extention via Sector 71. There will be four stations in on it, of which two will be in Noida Extension. It will terminate near Eco Village-III, around 3 km from the Noida Extension roundabout," said a senior government official.
Commenting on the development, Supertech CMD R K Arora said, "Now that land issues have been settled, this decision will boost real estate development in the belt."
"Over 3,00,000 apartment units are being developed on 2,500 hectares. With people beginning to populate this area, Metro will play an important role. It is a welcome decision," said Amit Gupta of Orris Infrastructure.
